Air Control Systems ONLY hires NATE Certified Technicians

North American Technician Excellence is a non-profit certification agency which offers a certification for technicians working with air conditioning and heating systems.  These certifications weed out the less qualified technicians long before they enter your home or business.

This certification is not the only qualification you should evaluate in selecting a technician, but it should be the MINIMUM.  NATE Certification is equivalent to 4 years of trade experience.  Knowledgeable tradesmen can become certified in one afternoon.

NATE Certification consists of a base certification and several equipment specific specialties.  All candidates must pass a Core exam which gauges basic ethics, safety, electrical theory and mechanical knowledge plus at least one specialty.  Currently, the specialty exams include:

  • Air Conditioning – Cooling only operation of an air conditioning system.
  • Air Distribution – Duct layout and sizing, exhaust, outside air, and air balancing.
  • Air-to-Air Heat Pumps – Cooling and heating operation of a reverse-able heat pump system.
    * Most homeowners in Jacksonville have this type of equipment.
  • Gas Furnaces – Propane or natural gas forced air heating.
  • Oil Furnaces – Fuel oil forced air heating.
  • Hydronics Gas – Propane or natural gas radiant heating.
  • Hydronics Oil – Fuel oil radiant heating.
  • Light Commercial Refrigeration – Smaller refrigeration systems for commercial establishments.
  • Commercial Refrigeration – Larger walk-in coolers and freezers.
  • Ground Source Heat Pump Loop Installer – Specialized water-to-air equipment installer.
  • HVAC Efficiency Analyst – Senior certification requiring at least four certifications.

Additionally, NATE testing offers a “Service” and “Installation” exam.  This leads to some confusion as the service exam includes all the content of the installation exam.

We require our technicians to keep and maintain a Heat Pump Service certification.
